Serge & Olya Troxel
Just a couple of rogue dreamers with an ambition for making amazing wine. We met October 12th 2010 in a wine bar and spent the whole evening discussing the aromas of Gewurtztraminer. The game has been on ever since. Serge worked as an import/distributor before attaining his MBA from Sonoma State University. He then went on to work multiple harvests at Bluxome Street Winery while also working a southern hemisphere harvest at Delaire Graff in South Africa. Since then we began our own label while he has also continued making wine for other labels. Olya attained her Wine Professional Certification from the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena. She then worked at Darioush and the California Wine Merchant where she truly honed her palette and skill.
Together, Serge and Olya form an unstoppable force in the world of winemaking. Their shared dedication, unwavering commitment to excellence, and unbridled enthusiasm infuse each bottle they craft with a unique blend of artistry and ambition. With every sip, their passion is palpable - a testament to the remarkable journey that began all those years ago in that quaint wine bar.
Soil is a light textured silt loam with acid 5.8 ph and low 1.7% Organic matter. The soil is deep ripped along the vine row to provide a good rooting zone for the vines.
We used four different clones in this vineyard. Firstly we used 50% Pommard-5 which is the backbone of the wine. It dictates the flavor profile and the fruitiness while providing clarity of the mouthfeel and finish. Secondly we used the Elliot clone which originally came from the Elliot Ranch in Napa and is likely Davis clone 103. This provides the nuance and softness. Finally the Stang clone came from the Stang Ranch in Alexander Valley and it provides a structuring effect integrating the clones together and adds the depth of character to the wine.
